Who’s the Go-To Company when You’ve Got a Crowd that’s Gotügo? - March 2009

Caught in an unguarded moment, we all have those stories to tell of what Victorians once politely called “the necessary.” Festival porta-potties festering in the midsummer sun…trash-littered latrines as your last option...but what can you do? It’s certainly a necessity and when you’ve got to go, you’ve, well…

Gotügo is out to change that entire perception, says Chris Patterson, VP of Sales and Marketing for the aptly named portable restroom company founded nearly thirty years ago, headquartered in Glen Burnie, MD. “The business is what it is,” she says, “but it doesn’t have to be dirty or intimidating. We want to give the industry a brand new face lift so people are no longer cringing at the thought of using a portable restroom.”

This was the driving force behind Ms. Patterson’s decision in joining the thriving company in 2007, despite her own apprehensions and her daughter’s immediate reaction – “Ewwww!” – upon hearing about her mother’s new job. “That’s exactly the reaction we’re striving to get away from,” Ms. Patterson says.

And how does a company achieve that goal? She answers simply, “Service, service and above all, service. We focus on fulfilling each of our customer’s needs successfully. The industry is known for having a relaxed attitude of simply waiting by the phone for customers to call because portable restrooms are somewhat of a necessity – we’re not going to sit back and wait. We want our customers to know who we are, what we stand for and the quality of service and products we have to offer.”

Gotügo’s units and trailers are state-of-the-art, well maintained and cared for...soon to be stored indoors to shelter them from the elements. They’re designed for a variety of occasions from corporate and sporting events and festivals to construction, home remodeling and emergency situations. From a Standard Unit to an Elite Unit or High-Rise Crane Unit to a 24-foot luxury trailer with optional on-site attendants, gotügo has a restroom suitable for any event or job site.

Users notice the difference and they don’t hesitate to comment. Ms. Patterson and her staff make a point to visit the various events and sites they serve, mingling with the crowd to hear unsolicited and uncensored feedback. “I was amazed, I even heard one woman at a bridal show say gotügo was nicer than her bathroom at home,” she says.

Gotügo has also donated much of its time and services to many fundraising events including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the March of Dimes, the Polar Bear Plunge and the Hospice Cup in Annapolis as well as various community walks and benefits in the Baltimore County area.

In fact, Ms. Patterson says, gotügo’s contributions really help make such fundraisers a success. “We understand they’re trying to raise money towards a great cause so we work hard to keep the costs down,” she says. “We make sure that the money goes where it’s most needed – to the victims, to the children and to the medical research.”

In addition to giving back to the community, gotügo works to help preserve and protect the environment by using recycled paper products along with the safest, most efficient chemicals available on the market. “We were looking at these issues before they became mainstream and we’re happy to be the industry leader showing the way,” says Ms. Patterson. “The environment is a critical concern for everyone...after all, it’s what we’re leaving to our children for many generations to come.”

She says gotügo’s main objectives are focused on “turning the industry around in a positive way, making an impact with the kind of service and products we provide to our valued customers.”

Their public outreach in the local markets is just one part of this mission. “We’re looking to reach out to everyone in the community who needs portable restroom service,” she says. “We believe without a doubt, gotügo is the consumer’s best choice for the money...for the job.”
